The twisted shank rotates into the timber during driving, increasing withdrawal resistance compared with smooth nails. Screw nails are widely used in roof batten fixing, fence construction, pallet assembly, joinery and any application where vibration or load could pull a standard nail loose. Materials and Coatings
Carbon steel screw nails are supplied bright for interior use or galvanized for outdoor projects. Are screw nails the same as ring shank nails?

Both are high-holding designs. Screw (twisted) nails have a continuous spiral shank, while ring shank nails have annular rings. Each performs best in different timber and loading conditions.
